Game Day Tailgating at the University of Alabama with Bob Baumhower

Here in the South, tailgating is more than mealtime—it’s a game day tradition.

“Football lends itself to a great tailgating experience,” says Bob Baumhower, proprietor of Baumhower’s Restaurant and The Compleat Angler. “There is a lot of ‘wait and see’ related to everything leading up to a football game. People are just as interested in experiencing pre-game events as they are the game itself.”

This weekend, the football fans of Tuscaloosa will have even more to get excited about during the countdown to kickoff. Baumhower, a former Crimson Tide standout and NFL great, will be firing up his grill to put on a seafood show before Alabama takes on Western Carolina.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, Baumhower and company will set up shop on Government Plaza to show off the fresh taste of Alabama Gulf Seafood with one of his most famous recipes: the Compleat West Indies Salad with grilled oysters.

The cooking demonstration will be recorded and then broadcast from 11–11:30 a.m. on WIAT CBS 42 as part of “Inside College Football.” To view Baumhower’s Compleat West Indies Salad recipe and other great tailgating must-haves from the world of Alabama Gulf Seafood, check out our recipes section.
