Mix Up Your Breakfast Menu With Alabama Gulf Seafood

Here in Alabama, whether it’s at restaurants, markets, festivals, or our own kitchens, there’s always plenty of Alabama Gulf Seafood on the menu for lunch and dinner.

But what about breakfast? Or better yet, brunch?

It may sound unorthodox at first, but there are plenty of ways you can incorporate fresh Gulf seafood into your breakfast routine. Whether you’re cooking up a hearty meal before work or sleeping in for a weekend brunch, here are a few suggestions for your morning menu.

Shrimp & Grits

Perhaps the most obvious choice, but it’s a classic—and for good reason. Delicious Gulf shrimp pair perfectly with thick, creamy grits as a base, and you can add any number of herbs and accents as you please to spice things up. Our friends in South Carolina and Georgia may have invented this dish, but we like to think Alabama shrimp make it perfect.

Crab Cakes Benedict

Eggs Benedict is a breakfast favorite thanks to easy preparation and plenty of flavor. Typically ham or bacon is the meat base for the dish, but some folks like to get creative—and if you’re one of those folks, try a Gulf crabcake, featuring Alabama Blue Crab.

Gulf Seafood Omelette

Smoked salmon is a popular breakfast item, but you won’t find any of ‘em in our Gulf waters. That doesn’t mean smoked Gulf fish are out of the question, though—meaty fish like Mackerel or Tuna will make a great substitute. Try it on a breakfast sandwich or on a bagel with cream cheese.

If you’re the type to eat tacos at any time of day—and why not, right?—try taking your breakfast tacos to a higher level with some Alabama Gulf Seafood. Fresh Gulf shrimp is a simple but great choice with some eggs, cheese, and veggies, and smoked fish will serve you well too.

For a little bit more substance to your breakfast, a nice hash scramble is a hearty option. And to make things even tastier, mix some fresh Gulf lump crabmeat in place of sausage. All it takes is crab, potatoes, cream cheese, and your favorite seasonings and accouterments (chopped bacon, perhaps?).
