For nearly a decade, Gulf Shores has played host to one of the most unique and entertaining seafood competitions in the country.
And it wouldn’t be possible without competitors.
That’s why The Hangout in Gulf Shores is looking for a few good chefs to showcase their culinary talents in the 9th Annual Hangout Oyster Cook-Off & Craft Beer Weekend, November 4-5.
What’s the objective, you might ask? And more importantly, what’s at stake?
Each team will compete in at least two of three categories: Rockefeller, Cajun, and create your own raw oyster dish. From there, a panel of expert foodies will taste-test each oyster creation based on presentation, flavor, and creativity to determine the Top 5 oysters in each category.
Additionally, a Chef’s Choice Award will be handed out, and audience participation (by way of tasting tickets used to purchase oysters throughout the day) will help determine the Audience Favorite.
More than $5000 in cash prizes will be handed out over the weekend, including prize money for the shucking champions and the winner of best booth.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to compete, gather your team and act quickly! The entry fee is $250 until September 1 and $300 until October 1.
And don’t leave your family and friends behind, either. There’s a plethora of activities on schedule for the weekend event, including the craft beer festival, demos and workshops, college football tailgating, the Gulf-to-Table Dinner, the North American Oyster Showcase, live music from Chase Bryant, and much more!
Come enjoy the last little bit of warm weather on the Gulf and fill your bellies with fresh Gulf oysters while you’re at it. And if you play your cards right, you might even go home a winner.
