Alabama Gulf Seafood that your business processes: Fish, Shrimp, Oysters, Crab

Where were you born and raised?

Birmingham, AL.

How did you come to work in Alabama’s seafood industry?

My family owned the oldest retail seafood market in Birmingham. They purchased it when I was 10 years old.

What types of seafood do you process/handle?

Many varieties of fish, shrimp, oysters, crab, lobster, house-made gumbo, seafood chowder and crab cakes. All are packaged and ready to take home.

What makes your company/organization stand out within Alabama’s seafood industry?

The large variety of seafood we sell to the public, and the vast knowledge of seafood and how to prepare it. I have also owned a seafood restaurant (River Fish Market) and I have a Culinary Degree. This allows me to share recipes with my customers as well as answer any questions they may have regarding preparation.

What are your professional goals?

To continue to provide our customers with the best seafood in the Birmingham area, and to eventually open Snapper Grabbers II.

What’s your favorite seafood dish to serve up for yourself and your family?

Anything with shrimp. Fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp creole, shrimp étouffée, shrimp salad…do I sound like Bubba?

What are your favorite hobbies?

Riding motorcycles and going to the beach.

Do you own any pets?

Yes, a beautiful Pomeranian named Roxie Hart (after the character in Chicago).

If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it?

Pay for both my granddaughters’ college education and open another seafood business.

If you didn’t work in the Alabama seafood industry, what line of work would you pursue?

I’d just retire. Seafood is all I’ve ever known!
