Good things come by the dozens. Like fresh Gulf oysters. And also big, lively events celebrating those fresh Gulf oysters.
Yes, folks, the fantastic Hangout Oyster Cook-Off in Gulf Shores has made it to its 12th year. And it should come as no surprise that this year’s event is gonna be bigger than ever.
It all happens November 1st & 2nd, where chefs from all over will be gathering to cook and prepare over 100,000 fresh Gulf oysters for all to enjoy. This weekend event is a feast like no other, featuring craft beer and spirits, smoked pit barbeque, a Big Green Egg tailgating experience, cooking and cocktail demonstrations, book signings, live music, and a whole lot more.
But the main attraction, of course, is the oysters.
Dozens of restaurants from all across the South will be competing in the main event. Each team will be challenged to prepare Gulf oysters in three different styles: Cajun, Rockefeller, or raw. Each team will be competing for awards in each category, plus recognition for People’s Choice, the Critic Award, and the ultimate Overall Oyster Cook-Off Champion.
These restaurateurs won’t be the only ones cooking up something special, though. This year’s slate of celebrity chefs is quite impressive.
Headlining this year’s Celebrity Chef Cooking Stage is Chef Michael Symon, the Food Network star known for Iron Chef America, BBQ Brawl, Burgers Brew & ‘Que, and The Chew. He’ll be joined by co-headliner and Alabama native Chris Lilly, head chef at Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q and six-time barbeque world champion. The event will be hosted once again by Martie Duncan, Alabama native and Food Network Star contestant.
