Now Open For Business: Rouses Markets Comes to Coastal Alabama

All of the hard work that goes into the harvesting of Alabama Gulf Seafood is worth the trouble when our neighbors get to cook it, eat it, and enjoy it.

And when there are more folks on the market selling our fresh Gulf seafood? Even better.

That’s why we’re very excited that our Louisiana-based neighbors Rouses Markets have decided to expand their business know-how to Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

This month, Rouses opened the first of five brand new stores slated for Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Theodore, Ala. And Alabamians throughout the area came to show their support—some lining up as early as 7 a.m.—and load up on reasonably priced, quality foods.

“We expect a lot of business and a lot of happy customers,” third-generation owner and managing partner Donny Rouse said in an interview with AL.com. “Hospitality is just part of our culture.”

That heavy dose of Southern hospitality, paired with a generations-old emphasis on sourcing their products from local fishermen, farmers, dairies, bakeries and manufacturers, is a big reason why folks throughout Coastal Alabama are excited for this new option for fresh, affordable foods.

And of course, fresh Alabama Gulf Seafood looks to be a big draw.

According to AL.com, Rouses’ grand opening in Theodore yielded long lines at the Gulf seafood counters. The jumbo Gulf shrimp were an especially hot item.

And you’ll find plenty more Alabama Gulf Seafood products, like Gulf oysters from Anna’s Seafood and Junior Barbour Seafood and fresh crabmeat from Dana’s Seafood, all out of Bayou La Batre, Ala.

“It was great to see all the Alabama Gulf Seafood in the display cases at the new Rouses in Theodore,” said Chris Blankenship, director of Alabama Marine Resources and program administrator of the Alabama Seafood Marketing Commission. “The posters of Ricky Harbison [of Anna’s Oysters] and Brad and Raymond Barbour [of Junior Barbour Seafood] really show the commitment of Rouses to support the local seafood industry.”

With 38 stores across Louisiana and Mississippi before they expanded to Alabama, Rouses has the expertise—and the commitment to local sourcing—to be a valuable asset in Alabama’s seafood industry.

The Theodore location is now open, and more stores are opening soon in Mobile, Saraland, Spanish Fort and Gulf Shores.

If you live or vacation along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, be sure to stop by a Rouses location near you and load up on fresh Gulf seafood.

Oh, and tell ‘em we sent you.
