Now is the Perfect Time for a Winter Vacation on Alabama’s Gulf Coast

Note: Due to the current surge of COVID-19 cases in Alabama, travel may not be safe or feasible for many individuals. We would only encourage travel over the next few months if you’ll be limiting your interactions to your current household, practicing social distancing, and wearing masks in public spaces.

It’s been a heck of a year, folks. We could all use a vacation right about now.

As it turns out, Alabama’s Gulf Coast is the perfect place to visit for a winter getaway. And now more than ever, Coastal Alabama could use our help. COVID-19 took a major (but understandable) toll on our vacation season, and Hurricane Sally did plenty of damage to local businesses on top of that.

So if you find yourself without family plans this Christmas, or you’re looking for a safe and responsible destination for January or February, we’d love to have you come visit us on the Coast, even if it’s just a short drive or only a day or two.

Here are a few reasons why we think you’ll love a winter vacation in South Alabama:

Beautiful, Temperate Weather

Sure, when a cold front passes through, it can get pretty chilly in Lower Alabama. But we’re no stranger to mild weather in the winter months, with temperatures rising up into the 50s and 60s some afternoons. If you come from a land of ice and snow, it’ll be a pleasant change of pace!

Wonderful Winter Fishing

If you’re looking for a safe winter activity, there’s not a more spacious place than the high seas. There are plenty of terrific fish biting during the colder months like Triggerfish, Flounder, and Sheepshead. And if you don’t have a vessel available, there are plenty of charter boat captains ready to take you on a coastal voyage.

Local Businesses in Need

If you didn’t keep up with the coverage of Hurricane Sally’s impact on South Alabama, it wasn’t a pretty sight. Lots of local businesses—that were already struggling before the storm thanks to COVID-19—may be depending on holiday sales and a strong start to next year to stay afloat. Now’s the time to help.

Clean, Sandy Beaches

No matter how warm or cold it is, Alabama’s 53 miles of coastline are always pristine, beautiful, and relaxing. With social distancing regulations in place, you and your loved ones can put your feet on the sand without worry. And since it’s the winter time, you won’t have to deal with the seasonal crowds!

Plentiful Outdoor Excursions

If sand between your toes isn’t really your thing, there are lots of other outdoorsy destinations to enjoy in South Alabama. The Gulf State Park is one of Alabama’s premier national parks, and we’d also recommend the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge and the South Alabama Land Trust.

Fresh, Plentiful Gulf Seafood

And of course, the biggest reason we’d love to have you come and visit is the food! Alabama’s seafood industry is still going strong, and our local restaurants are serving up genuine goodness for all to enjoy. Enjoy a spacious outdoor dinner on a neighborhood patio or pick up a to-go order to eat at home!

Oh, and if you need restaurant recommendations, we’ve got your covered. Our Locations page will point you in the director of the closest purveyors of Alabama Gulf Seafood. Tell ‘em we sent you!
