Treat Your Taste Buds to The Wharf Uncorked Chef Showdown

You’ve spent all summer entertaining your family and working your tail off. Now it’s time to kick back and have some fun—and some libations.

Next weekend, The Wharf Uncorked Food & Wine Festival returns for its fifth year at The Wharf in Orange Beach. For three nights in a row, patrons can gather and enjoy delectable wines from 100+ labels along with delicious dishes from local restaurants.

Want to hear the icing on the cake? Alabama Gulf Seafood will be there representing the Chef Showdown on Thursday, September 13 to kick off the event.

Folks will gather at The Port at 5:30 that evening to watch as three local chefs go head-to-head-to-head for the Chef Showdown crown. Their challenge: to cook against the clock while using Alabama Gulf Seafood product as well as a host of “mystery ingredients” to spice things up.

There’ll be plenty of talent on the other side of the table too. Chef Ford Fry, managing partner of over a dozen acclaimed restaurants nationwide, will be co-hosting the event alongside Laura Bento of Good Grit Magazine. This year’s judges will include husband-and-wife duo Chef James Briscione and Brooke Parkhurst, Executive Chef of the State of Alabama and Alabama Seafood Marketing Commission Chairman Chef Jim Smith, Andy Chapman of Eat Y’all and Eat Jackson, and Chef Brody Olive of Perdido Beach Resort (who happens to be the 2017 Wharf Uncorked Grand Tasting Champion).

The event will also include an open bar, high-end wine tastings, signature drinks from John Emerald Distillery, small bites, and a wine pull and live auction benefitting Make-A-Wish Alabama. Briscione and Parkhurst will be signing copies of their latest cookbook as well.

“We are thrilled to bring the festival to the Gulf Coast for its fifth year as a way to showcase culinary excellence and support a special cause,” said Sheena Mizell, marketing manager at The Wharf. “Year over year, we are blown away by the support and welcome all wine and food enthusiasts to join us for the three-day celebration.”

The Wharf Uncorked will continue Friday, September 14 with local wine dinners at Voyagers, Red Or White, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, and Villaggio Grille. The event wraps up Saturday, September 15 with the Grand Tasting from 4:00 to 7:30, including food and wine samples as well as culinary demonstrations throughout the evening.

Tickets may be purchased separately for the Chef Showdown and the Grand Tasting, or you can purchase a combo ticket for maximum savings. Tickets for the local wine dinners can be purchased through participating restaurants.

If you’ll be on the Gulf Coast next weekend, there’s no better place to be than The Wharf Uncorked. Great food, great wine, and a good cause. Cheers!
