Tune Up Your Taste Buds at These Six Fall Foodie Events

Summer is peak vacation season, when locals and visitors alike dine on Gulf seafood by the beach. Winter brings oyster season and its own variety of cold-weather fish.

But when the seasons change and the temperatures are mild and crisp? That’s the best of both worlds right there when it comes to Alabama Gulf Seafood, folks.

It’s no wonder, then, that October and early November in particular are full of fantastic foodie events across the state. From four days of fresh shrimp to an afternoon of elegant oysters, there’s so much to celebrate here in Alabama. If you made it to the 2nd Annual Gulf Seafood Gala or the Foley Festival of Flavor last weekend, you know what to expect.

Read up on six tasty upcoming events, then get your tickets and join us for a grand ol’ time. And be sure to bring your appetite!

National Shrimp Festival (Gulf Shores, October 12-14)

For nearly half a century, the National Shrimp Festival has transformed Gulf Shores into a sea of shrimp cooked up all different kinds of ways. Obviously the fresh Gulf shrimp are the main attraction, but there’s so much more to see and do, including live music, arts and crafts, kids activities, and more.

Breakin’ Bread (Birmingham, October 14)

Birmingham Originals is dedicated to supporting the Magic City’s thriving restaurant scene, and Breakin’ Bread is their annual showcase of all the best eats the city has to offer. Many friends of Alabama Gulf Seafood will be on the menu for this event, so skip lunch and come fill up on fresh local dishes.

Wine On The River (Mobile, October 20)

After a fantastic debut last year, Wine On The River returns to Mobile for a second helping of national and international wines. Better yet, there’ll be local food on the menu to complement those libations. Oh, and did we mention that there’ll be a lovely view to complement the whole experience?

Stars Of The Industry Dinner (Birmingham, October 29)

With so many fantastic restaurants (and restaurateurs) in the great state of Alabama, you can expect that this annual awards dinner is a delicious evening of fellowship. Better yet, the Grand Pineapple Golf Challenge takes place the very next day! We can’t think of a better way to spend a Monday night and a Tuesday morning.

Hangout Oyster Cook-Off & Craft Beer Weekend (Gulf Shores, November 2-3)

For over a decade now, The Hangout has been hosting what just might be the finest oyster event on the Gulf Coast. They’ll have truckloads full of fresh Gulf Coast oysters on hand, plus dozens of prominent chefs from all over the Southeast cookin’ ‘em up. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, folks.

World Food Championships (Orange Beach, November 7-11)

You read that right, folks—Chefs from all over the world will be gathering once again at The Wharf in Orange Beach for one of the biggest culinary competitions in…well, you get the idea. There’ll be tons of parties and events throughout the weekend for spectators to enjoy, so bring the whole family and chow down.

And don’t forget—October is National Seafood Month! So when you’re not at a local event, there’s plenty of ways to support Alabama’s seafood industry all month long (and beyond). Now get out there and eat up!
