Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Bayou La Batre, AL.

How did you come to work in Alabama’s seafood industry?

My family in Bayou La Batre had a long history of working in the seafood industry.

What other jobs have you held within Alabama’s seafood industry?

I’ve been a deckhand and captain of deep sea shrimp boats, owner of a large ice plant, owner of a fleet of commercial shrimp trawlers, owner of a shipyard that built fishing vessels, owner of a marine fuel dock, owner of the largest cold storage facility in Bayou La Batre, owner of a fleet of refrigerated trucks, and owner of a commercial net shop and marine supplies business. Additionally, I was a member of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council for three years and a member of the Conservation Advisory Board for seven years.

What does a typical work day involve?

Buying shrimp, processing and selling shrimp, and collecting from customers.

What makes your company stand out within Alabama’s seafood industry?

We have been in business since 1967. We pack a quality product and we are one of the larger shrimp processors on the Gulf of Mexico.

What is something that everyone should know about Alabama’s seafood industry?

Everyone should know that the success of the shrimping industry impacts many other industries, such as boatbuilding, trucking, banking, and insurance. It can affect the cost of many goods and services such as fuel, ice, and electronics. Most people probably don’t realize that many families depend on making their living from seafood, be it catching, processing, transporting, or selling.

What is your favorite seafood dish to serve up for yourself and your family?

My favorite dish to serve to my family is Shrimp Jambalaya.

What is your favorite band or musician?

My favorite singer is Jimmy Buffett.

If you could spend the day with any celebrity or historical figure, who would it be?

I would choose to spend the day with John F. Kennedy.

If you didn’t work in the Alabama seafood industry, what line of work would you pursue?

If I did not work in the seafood industry, I would be a chef.
