The only thing better than a plate of fresh Alabama Gulf Seafood? A plate of fresh Alabama Gulf Seafood paired with the perfect glass of wine.
That’s what’s in store next weekend at The Wharf Uncorked Food & Wine Festival presented by Wind Creek Atmore, September 14-16 at The Wharf in Orange Beach.
And you’ll want to get there early for the VIP Chef Showdown Thursday night at The Palms, where we’re proud to once again be presenting the annual Chef Showdown!
The Chef Showdown is a culinary competition between four fantastic local chefs: Chef Brody Olive of Perdido Beach Resort, Chef Chris Kelly of Driftwood Bar & Grille and Ronin Sushi Bar, Chef Jason Ramirez of Villaggio Grille, and Chef Justin Cobb of Wolf Bay Lodge. Each chef will be racing the clock and meeting a few challenges along the way to create the finest Alabama Gulf Seafood dishes. And, like last year, the Chef Showdown champion will be an automatic Elite Qualifier for the World Food Championships at The Wharf in November.
A trio of bona fide foodies will serve as judges for the event: Chef Chris Sherrill, 2016 Grand Tasting winner and executive chef and owner of Salt at San Roc Cay; Chef Jim Smith, Executive Chef of the State of Alabama and chairman of the Alabama Seafood Marketing Commission; Kelly Finley, a 17-year news veteran; and Maggie Lacey, executive editor at Mobile Bay Magazine. Lacey will be a judge at the Grand Tasting as well.
James Briscione and Brooke Parkhurst, authors of The Couples Kitchen, will serve as emcees throughout the evening for the Chef Showdown.
Of course, there’ll be plenty of other tasty activities throughout the evening, including wine tastings, food samplings, an auction preview, open bar, and prize giveaways.
And then you’ve got two more days on top of that. Friday, September 15 will feature a pair of extravagant wine dinners at Villaggio Grille, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, and Voyagers at Perdido Beach Resort. No matter which you choose, you’re in for a fantastic meal.
It all leads up to the Grand Tasting Saturday from 12pm-4pm, featuring food samples from 20+ local restaurants and wine samples from 100+ labels. And while you’re indulging in such culinary pleasures, enjoy cooking demos, silent and live auctions, a luxury yacht walk, a champagne toast, and much more.
Tickets are now available at thewharfuncorked.com. See y’all there!
